Seth MacFarlane's Flight 11 Story - True or False ?
Analysis of Flight 11 Passenger Cancellation Records
TV show ‘Family Guy’ animator, Seth MacFarlane was supposed to be a passenger on American Airlines Flight 11, which crashed into the North Tower of the World Trade Centre after allegedly being hijacked by terrorists on 9/11.
MacFarlane said, “I was booked on that flight, and I was drinking the night before, and I was hungover, and I missed the plane by about ten minutes. It was a very close call for me.” [1]
Apparently MacFarlane booked the next flight instead out of town, but after waking up from what he believed was a well-earned rest in the airport lounge, he discovered that tragedy had struck the United States.
In 2009, MacFarlane recounts his near miss with Flight 11 on the Howard Stern Show.
Interestingly, MacFarlane’s account is at odds with the American Airlines official flight cancellation record, indicating that MacFarlane’s reservation for Flight 11 was cancelled at 6:34 a.m. [2] This was over an hour before Flight 11 was scheduled to depart from Gate 32 at 7:45 a.m.
Is MacFarlane’s account mistaken, or are the American Airlines records incorrect? Either way, according to MacFarlane, he tried to board the aircraft but the gate was closed, which would have been at the very latest 7:45 a.m., being as Flight 11 pushed back from the gate just one minute behind schedule, at 7:46 a.m., so it is inconceivable that MacFarlane could have cancelled his reservation at 6:43 a.m. and attempted to board the flight an hour later.
